This is a story I’ve been living with for 11 years—a quarter of my life.
Through self-portraits, I explore and express the emotions and inner states I’ve experienced since losing my home in 2014 due to the war in Ukraine. It was the house where my children were born—my shelter, my bunker. But in 2014, it was uprooted, burned, and erased from the map of the Donetsk city, Eastern Ukraine, leaving a deep void in my life.
I moved several times within Ukraine, but in 2022, after the full-scale invasion began, I was forced to leave my country and relocate to Valencia, Spain.
I try to stay strong. Sometimes I even try to say a final goodbye and let it go. But in my memory remain the dates that split my life into “before” and “after.” In memory remain the unanswered questions and the street names of my hometown, where I left a part of myself—once and forever.
Ruined dreams...
